Jamieson gets Trump call after ending 14-year golf title drought

Scott Jamieson ended his 14-year wait for a European tour title on Sunday and then promptly found himself taking a phone call from Donald Trump.

The 42-year-old Scot's triumph on home soil at the Nexo Championship in Aberdeenshire took place on the Trump International Golf Links and it has become a tradition for the US President to congratulate the winner of the tournament.

And so it was a somewhat overwhelmed Jamieson who found himself speaking to Trump on a video call as he followed the example of compatriot Grant Forrest, last year's winner.

"He (Trump) was very complimentary and it sounds like he was actually watching it," Jamieson told BBC Sport. "He said he was following along, so it was really cool... I mean he is the President of the United States."

Jamieson's final round of 67 saw him to 11 under par and ensured he held off England's Matthew Jordan by two shots.

His fine up-and-down for par at the 17th, where Jordan made bogey, effectively sealed Jamieson's victory in this European Tour event.

"Fourteen years, that's wild," said Jamieson. "It's just so tough, so hard to win. I was so patient all day... just can't believe I've won."
