Betis sign Brazilian Antony from Manchester United

Real Betis announced the signing of Brazil international winger Antony on loan from Manchester United on Monday on a five-year deal, which follows his successful loan spell in Seville in the second half of last season.

Betis did not announce the size of the transfer fee but various Spanish media have reported a figure of 25 million euros ($29.3 million).

Some British media reported that part of the fee was made up of add-ons while United retain a 50 percent sell-on clause.

The move had been expected throughout the summer window after Antony, who failed to impress United boss Ruben Amorim after he took over the helm at Old Trafford in November, had shone on loan at Betis.

"His impressive performances in green and white yielded nine goals and six assists in 26 appearances, playing a decisive role in the club's qualification for European competition and in reaching the historic UEFA Conference League final," Betis said in a statement.

The deal had been announced on Friday but hit a snag after Betis claimed it was off, reportedly due to a dispute over Antony's salary reduction when moving to Spain.

The 25-year-old was a huge disappointment at Old Trafford after his 95 million euro move from Ajax in 2022.

He scored just 12 goals in his 96 matches for United in all competitions but eight of those came in his first season, after which his form dipped dramatically.
